Dr Peter Penfold BSc PhD (Managing Director)

With 40 years of operating in high technology sectors, Peter is an experienced and commercially aware relationship manager with an ability to effectively communicate at all levels and with different cultures.

 

During a career in applied superconductivity spanning 30 years, Peter has a proven track record in leadership, business development, customer relationship management, sales and marketing.

 

Clint Gouveia CSci BSc FIScT (Director of Operations)

Clint, is a highly experienced commercial and operations director, having worked within the superconducting magnet industry since 1987. He gained significant global commercial and technical experience via numerous customer-facing management roles whilst with Oxford Instruments, coupled with OEM account, product and project management. Subsequently Clint moved into functional management in 2007, running Varian Inc.'s superconducting magnet test facility with responsibility for approximately $80M of revenue per annum. By 2012 Clint was overseeing the entire manufacturing and test functions at Agilent's Yarnton campus, with approximately 100 reports.

 

A science graduate and chartered scientist, Clint graduated with first class honours and is a fellow and CSci assessor for The Institute of Science and Technology.

 

Dr Nicholas Shaw MA MSci PhD (Cantab) MInstP (Technical Director)

Nick graduated with a first class degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University in 1999 and he was a founding member of the Medical Physics Group at the Cavendish Laboratory. After the conferral of his doctorate in 2003, Nick took on the advanced instrument development, construction and testing of the world's first high resolution, multi-slice simultaneous combined

magnetic resonance and positron emission tomography imaging system.

 

Nick joined Scientific Magnetics in 2005, and has been responsible for some of our most innovative projects, including asymmetric split pairs, vector magnets and our Helium-Free MRI technology.

 

Mark Gallilee CEng MEng FIMechE (Engineering Director)

In parallel with his degree, Mark cut his teeth at Black & Decker in the consumer manufacturing industry, delivering several hundred thousand of efficiency savings as part of their Six Sigma programme.  Mark graduated from Durham University with a First Class Masters degree in Engineering. Since graduating, Mark has held positions up to board level and delivered several major projects, including a major role on a particle detector for the International Space Station (AMS-02) for MIT, and leading a major $15M

upgrade project for the LHC at CERN.  Mark is a Fellow of the Instutute of Mechanical Engineers and mentors graduates through their chartership in his spare time.

 

Katy Heriot BA ACA (Financial Controller)

Katy, who joined the company in 2013, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and has experience in the Audit and Corporate Tax departments of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Her previous role within industry involved management accounts, corporation tax and group consolidation/ reporting within a large Finance department.

 

At Scientific Magnetics, Katy is responsible for monthly management accounts, cash management, payroll, and HR matters, as well as tax and statutory reporting.

 

 

Our technicians have over 110 years and our designers over 65 years of experience with superconducting magnet manufacture.
